Wabash General Hospital Awarded CMS Accreditation From The Joint Commission

Wabash General Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for CMS Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

Wabash General Hospital underwent a rigorous, 4-day unannounced onsite review on December 5-8, 2023. During the visit, Wabash General Hospital staff, physicians, and administrators participated in presentations and discussions on topics such as leadership, data management, infection prevention, and medication management. Surveyors also took a deep dive into specific areas using a “tracer” methodology: They focused on a topic, such as medication administration, across the organization, or they followed a randomly selected patient journey from admission to discharge.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with healthcare providers, measurement experts, and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help healthcare organizations measure, assess, and improve performance.

“As a healthcare accreditor, The Joint Commission works with healthcare organizations across care settings to inspire a safer and higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “Through collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, The Joint Commission helps drive improvement while maintaining accountability through our leading survey methods and standards. We commend Wabash General Hospital for its commitment to advancing safety, quality, equity, and compassion for all patients.”

"The Joint Commission Accreditation is a prestigious recognition that signifies Wabash General Hospital's loyalty to detailed standards of quality and safety in healthcare delivery,” said Katheryn McWhirter, BSN, RN, Vice President of Quality at Wabash General Hospital. “This accreditation process involves thoroughly evaluating the hospital's policies, procedures, and practices to ensure they meet or exceed industry benchmarks.
