December 20th, 2024 (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) – Wabash General Hospital has signed three future Certified Athletic Trainers who will join the hospital after graduation. Luke Fleener from Lindenwood University, Will Nall from McKendree University, and Avery Seidel from McKendree University signed their contracts and were presented with athletic training jerseys.
Sarah Turner, Athletic Training Director, states, “Today is a great day for WGH and the athletic training profession because more area student-athletes will have access to high-quality healthcare. Luke, Avery, and Will are southern Illinois natives, and we are excited to have them join our team to give back to this area and our area student-athletes.”
Luke Fleener is an MSAT Student at Lindenwood University with an anticipated graduation date of May 2026. Luke is originally from Louisville, IL where he attended North Clay High School and then attended Greenville University and played baseball while pursuing his undergraduate degree. He chose to pursue a degree in Athletic Training because he loves being around sports and being able to help people stay on the field. He enjoys the relationships you can build through athletics and wanted that to be a part of his career choice. He chose Wabash General Hospital because of being close to where he grew up and the benefits of working for them. He also has been around some of the WGH employees, and it has been a very welcoming community.
Will Nall is an MSAT Student at McKendree University with an anticipated graduation date of May 2025. Will is originally from Arthur, IL. He chose to pursue a degree in Athletic Training because his uncle is an athletic trainer, and he has been close to the profession for a long time. He has wanted to go to school to become an athletic trainer since he was a freshman in high school. He chose Wabash General Hospital following completing his summer internship with WGH Athletic Trainer, Bennett Richter and saw that WGH was the place to be for athletic training.
Avery Seidel is an MSAT Student at McKendree University with an anticipated graduation date of May 2026. Avery is originally from Wayne City, IL. Avery chose to pursue a degree in Athletic Training because she wanted to have a career around
athletics. Throughout her high school athletic career, she was not fortunate enough to have an athletic trainer and through that experience learned that there needed to be more accessible care for high school athletes. As an athletic trainer she wants to be able to provide proper care for athletes before, during and after injury so they can get back to the sport they love. She chose Wabash General Hospital because of the community that surrounds it and how they care for their patients. WGH provides nothing but the best for their patients.
Wabash General Hospital provides athletic training services to 16 area high schools and junior colleges. Our certified athletic trainers provide on-site high-quality healthcare to student athletes and provide practice and game coverage. WGH currently employs 10 full-time certified athletic trainers. Mike Cheesman, PA-C serves as the medical director for the AT program helping and mentoring ATs to ensure our care to student athletes is top notch.
